The Tamarack Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to funding support programs for the artisans of West Virginia. Through donor support, we are able to provide educational, training, and economic opportunities to artisans in the development of their craft as well as managing a relief fund for artisans who suffer career-threatening events beyond their control.
Whether he’s turning a pot or she’s turning a phrase, West Virginia artisans and artists are doing what West Virginians do best – putting their natural talents and creative energy together to make something that lasts, something that celebrates the past and provides excitement for the future. This is the mission of the Tamarack Foundation.
West Virginia’s creative entrepreneurs live in all 55 counties of our state. They produce exceptional, internationally acclaimed art of every kind – pottery and glass, heritage food products, literature and music, drama and fine art. Many work from their homes and small shops. They live and work in our cities and our small communities. They provide jobs for neighbors. They mentor new artists and artisans who want to be a part of our creative economy and who value the opportunity to preserve the past with the work they do today.
Sometimes, they need our help. They need support to become professional business owners whose marketing efforts are on target and whose production processes are as efficient and organized as they are creative and show stopping. They need classes and workshops and help preparing for jurying processes and shows.
Sometimes, they need emergency services. When a workshop burns or an unexpected illness strikes, these small business owners may not have the financial resources to handle the burden and keep their businesses in operation.
That’s where we step up. The Tamarack Foundation, with your support, can keep that potter at his wheel and that writer at her desk. We provide business and training support through the Artisan Resource Center, traveling workshops and pre-jurying sessions. We have an artisan relief fund that can help our artists and artisans face emergencies.
The Tamarack Foundation is dedicated to preserving the heritage of our state and encouraging economic development for our arts communities. We reach out to artists and artisans all around West Virginia, in rural communities and cities. We help your neighbors and your favorite artisans.
Now, we’re asking you to help them, too. Please make a pledge to support our creative community. Make a donation to the Tamarack Foundation. Your support today will mean we are able to reach more artists and artisans tomorrow. It will allow you to play a crucial role in our state’s creative economy. It will assure that fine, handcrafted products will continue to represent our state well at Tamarack, other West Virginia shops, galleries and festivals, and festivals and shops around the country – and the world.
